After receiving a £2 million grant from Salix, Hyndburn Borough Council was looking to decarbonise their leisure centre. Partnering with Alliance Leisure and ISG, we completed a number of design, electrical, and mechanical works. In particular, our expertise was needed to ensure the design and integration of the two air source heat pumps into what was a traditional gas-fired heating system was robust and compatible with the existing emitters.
Along with the air source heat pumps, we installed 652 solar PV panels, new Dantherm poll AHUs, two new pool pump motors, and a building energy management system. Across these gas and electricity savings, we created an annual CO2 saving of 462 tonnes, which is equivalent to cutting back by 73.9%. The project was successfully delivered on time and to budget in July 2022, and the leisure centre was left in a much more futureproof position.

Our primary focus was to ensure the seamless integration of two air source heat pumps into the pre-existing conventional gas-powered heating system, ensuring its robustness and compatibility with the existing heating elements.
In addition to the installation of the air source heat pumps, we also implemented several other eco-friendly measures, including solar PV panels, the installation of new Dantherm poll AHUs, the replacement of pool pump motors, and the implementation of an advanced building energy management system.
