Virgin Active are renowned for their global chain of health clubs, gyms, leisure centres and spas. The centres are part of the Virgin Group, owned and founded by billionaire, Richard Branson.

As a regular client of Hensall we complete works for Virgin Active all over the UK, on this occasion our mechanical and electrical engineering services were required during the construction phase of one of their latest locations in Merchant Square, London.

Designs including working drawings, Site setup, Testing commissioning and documentation.

ELECTRICAL
Mains distribution system, main MCCB panel, distribution boards, containment for all services, earthing, LED lighting installation with dali control to all areas, small power, lift supplies, power to cardio equipment cardio, localised dali dimming to studios, addressable fire alarm system linked to the main building centre control, mechanical supplies, testing and commissioning, AV installation including media walls, IT installation including, CAT 6 cabling, security, CCTV, aide alarm.

MECHANICAL
Design from concept shell to construction, above ground drainage to landlords interceptor, pool supply and extract, VRF AC, heat recovery, vent to halls and studios, smoke extraction connections to landlords, hot water and heating via HX from landlords primary mains and water supplies, male and female ventilation.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Hensall were involved in the project from the outset, form the design phase right through to completion as both our mechanical and electrical engineering services were required as part of the project. In addition, we were appointed as project manager to oversee both sides of the project and ensure things ran smoothly and to a timescale.

As always, there were a few challenges that needed to be overcome. The central London location of the leisure centre presented issues with logistics, as is the case with any project in these sorts of areas. The design specifications dictated that the chilled water to the building was supplemented by additional VRF systems.

In all, the project was completed in a time efficient manner and ran without any real issues being presented, which was due mostly to a thorough planning stage. The centre was completely transformed into a cutting edge health and leisure centre that was fit to carry the Virgin Active brand.
